Teaching

As an active educator Josh maintains a private studio and is available as a teacher in the Chicago area as well as nationally and internationally by Skype.  Josh’s methodology involves utilizing a students strengths to tackle the areas of playing that are deficient – always building from what the student already has success with.  This allows the student to use already established habits to establish new positive habits while unlearning old undesirable habits.

Subjects includes:

• Technical mastery as a means towards greater expression.

• Developing and understanding the importance of efficient playing.

• Specific technical aspects:

• Sound production

• Air as it relates to sound, articulation, and range

• Articulation

• Endurance and range

• Flexibility

• Improvisation

• Jazz composition

Josh offers lessons on an hourly rate – as well as intensive sessions ranging up to 2 hours.

• Brass sectionals

• Jazz band direction and section work

• Trumpet clinics

• Jazz improvisation

• Group lessons
