Check out this music video from DenZon, I unfortunately couldn't make the video session, but I'm playing trumpet on the album track that this video was shot to. It was fun writing horn parts for this album - I think it turned out very well. There is some serious rock and roll in this video (and album) with Joe Vitale, Freddie Salem, and others. ... Happy birthday to the great Duke Ellington, he was born on this date in 1899. One of the most prolific composers of all time, he penned countless classics and he led one of the great large ensembles of all time. The "Queen's Suite" was written in 1958 for the Queen of England after Ellington met her. Story goes, he wrote the suite and dedicated it to her as he was so taken by their meeting. In 1959 he took his orchestra into the studio and made a single pressing and had one copy delivered to the queen. Ellington didn't allow it to be released, and it was only released after he had passed away.I think it is was a pretty spectacular gesture, as it must have taken a considerable amount of time and cost a considerable amount of money. However, music knows no bounds, and upon listening to the suite, it is immediately evident the impression this meeting must have had on Mr. Ellington.I was first introduced to this piece of music while I was playing in OJE (Oberlin Jazz Ensemble) under direction of the late Wendell Logan. We performed this piece one semester and I've been a fan of it ever since.#oberlin #wendelllogan #oje #ellington #sirduke #powerofmusichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIr9m1gb6VU ... See MoreSee Less

Hey friends! Go check out my talent cousin Matthew Azrieli's new EP, Chloe (I believe there may be a free download, or a "pay what you want" option.) We had a blast recording this EP last spring in Brooklyn, and I laid down all the horn parts and horn solos throughout the album. I think it turned out great, he's a very talented songwriter, singer, and guitar player. ... See MoreSee Less
